Preguntas frecuentes

  • No oigo a alguien.

Frequently asked questions

  • Requirements. An iPhone with iOS 17 or later. You need two or more iPhones running the app to talk to each other. No internet or account is needed, but keep Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth on. There is no Android version; on iPad it runs with the iPhone layout.
  • Permissions. The app asks for Microphone (only while you hold the button), Local Network (to find nearby phones) and Notifications; Bluetooth and Speech Recognition are optional. If you denied one, enable it in iOS Settings → Ghostwave. Without Local Network, nearby phones will not be found.
  • The first connection. Open the app on both phones and bring them close: iOS does not let a background app discover new phones. If a phone locks before linking, it will not join anyone until you unlock it. Once linked, the connection keeps working with the screen locked.
  • I can’t hear someone. Check that you are on the same channel and use the same squad PIN (or neither of you uses a PIN): if only one of you has a PIN, or the PINs differ, you will not understand each other. Make sure you have not muted them and move a little closer: range depends on the environment. If you missed a message because of noise, use “repeat last message”.
  • Text messages and private chats. Open the chat from the messages button. The “All” and “Private” tabs separate what goes to the channel from what is just for you. To write to one person so nobody else can read it, tap ⋯ next to them on the radar and choose “Private message” (or “Talk in private” for voice). A private message reaches only that person, and only if they are in range.
  • “This person’s key changed”. They may have reinstalled the app, or someone may be impersonating them. Compare the safety code with that person, in person, before you keep writing to them.
  • Squad PIN. In Settings set a 6-digit PIN and share it only with your own people: with it, voice, messages and beacons are encrypted and reach only people with the same PIN. It lapses by itself (1 h, 8 h, 24 h or never, your choice). To leave the squad, tap “Clear” next to the PIN. Channel 00 and SOS are always in the clear.
  • Message alerts. With the app open a bar appears at the top; with the app in the background, a notification. You can turn them off with “Notify messages” in Settings (it does not affect voice calls or SOS) or in iOS Settings → Notifications → Ghostwave. If alerts do not arrive, also check iOS Focus modes.
  • Background mode. While the radio is on, the app keeps audio active so it can keep receiving with the screen locked. iOS may limit background activity in some situations.
  • Mute and unmute. Tap ⋯ next to someone on the radar (or “Mute” on the bar of whoever is talking) to stop hearing them; your mute list is stored only on your phone. To hear them again, go to Settings → “Muted nodes” and unmute them.
  • SOS. Hold for 1.5 seconds to send it; that avoids false alarms. Nearby phones ring for an SOS only once in a while, so nobody can use it to harass. Ghostwave is not a substitute for emergency services.
  • Turn the radio off. In the app’s Settings → Master power status you can turn the radio off; doing so releases all audio. To turn it back on, tap the radio header.
  • Delete my data. “Delete history” (the chat’s trash button), “Clear” next to the PIN and “Muted nodes” in Settings. For everything else, delete the app. Details in the privacy policy.
  • Privacy and rules. Read the privacy policy and the community rules.
